Power Point—I must accept the way God made me and stop trying to change what God says is wonderful.

Just As I Am?

by Doug Lasit

Is it just me, or does it seem that God does everything backward at times? Why would He say that the first will be last or that He will use the foolish things of this world to confound the wise? It almost doesn’t make any sense to us modern Americans. We get all confused when we compare our ways and thoughts to God’s ways and thoughts.

I suppose that’s why most of us spend so much time and energy trying to be something that we are not, and all the while God is trying to get us to be what we are. I know you’ve heard it a million times before, and it probably seems a bit cliché, but the truth is that God loves you just the way you are—the way He made you—and the way you are is the way you can bring the most glory to Him.

In today’s society people are not satisfied with the way God made them. We try to change the way we look, the way we laugh, the way we act—all in order to "fit in." We tend to forget that when God made you and me, He made no mistakes. You must learn to see yourself the way God sees you. Not just in looks, but in abilities and in blessings. We have to learn to think like David when He confessed, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful" (Ps. 139:14).

God has great plans for your life (see Jeremiah 29:11). You are His messenger, His son or daughter, and He has the future worked out for you because He loves you so much. He takes delight in our lives. Whether it is a problem that we face, an obstacle that we must overcome, or a victory we celebrate together, His favorite activity is to come through for us and give us great joy in life. The key to life is the understanding that God made you with His glory in mind. The way you were made and the plans that He has for you are forever joined, and knowing this will bring you contentment in life. He delights in you!

Now go back and read Psalm 147 one more time.
