Same Old, Same Old
by Scott Gurule
Ask any Christian you want how a person can hear from God. More than likely he is going to tell you the same old thing you have heard since Sunday school in the second grade: "If you want to hear from God you need to read the Word and pray daily." And you reply with an "Amen!" and a "That’s right, brother!" Meanwhile, people all across America scream, "Get real!"
Now, before you get your feathers ruffled, let me explain. Members of this generation are crying out for the living Word. They are saying, "Tell me something I don’t already know! Show me something that I’ve never seen!" I’m here to say it’s more than reading the Word; it’s more than praying daily. If you want to have a close encounter of the God kind, you have to be a presser. Press in to the living Word of God.
Hey! Don’t tell me you read your Word and get nothing out of it, when the only time you crack it open is when you’re on the great white porcelain throne. Start your morning and end your day with the Word of God. And don’t you dare put it down until you have a revelation, something that will sustain you for the rest of the day. You want answers? You want power in your life? The only place you are going to get it is through finding your own revelation. You can’t keep expecting someone else to spoon-feed you for the rest of your life. If you do, then you are obviously either still a baby in the Word or you are spiritually handicapped.
Same goes for prayer. You must get to the place in your life where nothing else will do but for you to drop to your knees and seek the face of God for answers to your problems. I’m telling you: Nothing in the world beats a one-on-one, personal conversation with God.
So, as the folks at Nike say: "Just do it!" Get out of your everyday normal Bible reading and prayer and step into a transforming, revelational relationship with Jesus Christ!
Now go back and read Mark 5:21–34 one more time.
