Topic—History Makers

Power Point—A history maker isn’t afraid to stand up for what is true and right!

This Week’s Memory Verse—1 Timothy 4:12

Access Database—2 Corinthians 4

Talk the Talk

by Scott Gurule

You’ve probably seen this story or similar ones in your e-mail. Here’s my version.

Two men were having a friendly debate. One was an atheist; the other a Christian.

Atheist: Do you see the tree outside?

Christian: Yes.

Atheist: Do you see the grass outside?

Christian: Yes.

Atheist: Go outside and look up at the sky.

Christian: OK. [Returning a few minutes later] I saw the sky.

Atheist: Did you see God?

Christian: No.

Atheist: That’s my point. We can’t see God because he isn’t there. He doesn’t exist.

Christian: [Thinking quietly for a moment, then deciding to ask a few questions of his own] I think I understand. Let me try it. Do you see the tree outside?

Atheist: [Enthusiastically] Yes!

Christian: Do you see the grass outside?

Atheist: Yessssss!

Christian: Did you see the sky?

Atheist: Yessssss!

Christian: Now look in the mirror.

Atheist: OK.

Christian: Do you see your brain?

Atheist: No.

Christian: My point exactly.

I do not suggest trying this line of reasoning out on your high school biology teacher. I am saying stand up and speak your mind any time a teacher, a city council member or the President tries to push a belief upon you that does not compare to the truth of the Bible. There is something great to be said for a person who can stand up in faith and speak his beliefs in a bold way without creating an offense.

So share your faith. Don’t let someone bash your Father in heaven without a well-thought-out response. Don’t be afraid to tell others about the great things He has done for you and that He wants to do for them!

Now go back and read 2 Corinthians 4 one more time.

Identity Matrix—Disciples of Christ...

Know God—In what way did God reveal Himself to you as you read His Word?

Live for God—What one lifestyle change is God calling you to make?

Love Others—In what way is God calling you to minister to someone in need?

Bear Fruit—In what ways will you set the example and the standard for others to follow?
