Topic—History Makers

Power Point—I can only be a history maker for God if my integrity overshadows

my faults.

Walk the Walk

by Scott Gurule

You’ve probably heard it said many times in one way or another: Integrity is who you are when no one is looking. I actually favor a different definition. A wise person once told me that "integrity is what matters most in your life." The reason this definition of integrity has stuck with me so well is that she was a living example of that definition.

I went to the grocery store the other day, and out front was a fire engine. My first thought was to pray for whoever was hurt. But as I entered the store I realized they were taking up money to help a kid’s foundation. I thought that was awesome. But what if you had pulled up to see a transient or bum standing out front with a boot asking for donations to help a kid’s foundation? Would you be more likely to give to him or to the firefighter? Most people would pick the firefighter, because the person taking up the money has a reputation for excellence behind him. It is that same spirit of excellence that gives them authority and respect from the community.

If you were to read chapter 6 in the Book of Daniel, you would find that Daniel was a man of integrity; so much so that he found favor with King Darius. The king gave Daniel authority over all the governors and rulers who were set up throughout the land. In fact those governors and rulers tried to find fault with Daniel’s personal life or how he ran the kingdom. The only thing they found was that he was a steadfast, faithful man, full of integrity.

So here’s the question: When people look into your personal life and dealings, what kind of fault will they find? Will they be forced to stand and say, "This truly is a person of integrity. His personal life has been made public, and we find no fault"?

Now go back and read Daniel 6 one more time.
