Blessing or Blessing?
by Aaron Maners
As you access today’s scripture database, you will find 14 verses that show God’s blessing unlocked by our obedience, and 54 verses that open up our lives to unmentionable curses triggered by our willful disobedience. This is heavy stuff!
As believers, it would be very easy to get nervous after reading that portion of scripture—wondering about the slightest mess-up, the smallest sin, hoping that it wouldn’t launch us into a tailspin of eternal cursing. But hey, no need to worry. Galatians 3:13–14 says that, "…Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law," and we don’t have to feel the brutal effects of God removing His hand of protection from our lives and finances. However, simply eliminating the atmosphere for cursing (when we become free from the Law) still doesn’t automatically thrust us into the realm of blessing. We must live a life of obedience in order to be blessed. Yup. Stuff like cleaning our room, doing our homework and taking out the trash all fall into that category!
Here are six easy steps to blessing in your life:
1. Believe the Word. Believe that God is your source for all you need and desire. See Philippians 4:19.
2. Do the Word. Put God first in your financial affairs, no matter what comes your way. Learn what the Word has to say and do it. See James 1:22.
3. Meditate on the Word. Constant repetition of God’s promises allows them to sink deeply into your soul. See Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2–3.
4. Be a giver. Obedience to God through tithes and offerings qualifies you to be blessed beyond measure. See Luke 6:38.
5. Confess your faith. Faith in God is contagious! If you truly believe that He will bless you, say so! See Luke 6:45 and Psalm 107.
6. Resist the enemy. Your money, your health, your property, if blessed by obedience, are God’s not Satan’s. Stand your ground! See James 4:7.
Wow! Let’s choose to live in obedience to God’s Word when it comes to all areas of our lives…even our bank accounts! Anyway, who wants to live out from under God’s awesome hand of blessing?
Now go back and read Deuteronomy 28; 29:5–6 one more time.
