In reply to: Aranye 's message, "{Warning! I know nothing of SCUBA diving OR safety. Do not try this at home! Or at the beach}" on 20:43:17 12/19/01 Wed

Aranye, smiling brightly, says: "You've all got it? Wonderful!" A wooden crate lies to the left of her; now she reaches out and draws it near. Fifteen small bells are within. "Now for the bell signals. There are three: Report, also known as Come-in, Emergency, and Red Alert. Dolphins are not obliged to come at the Report Sequence, though at least one always does, in my experience. Emergency calls the local pod. Or pods," she adds with a smile, knowing well that more than one pod roams the Monaco Bay waters. "Red Alert calls all the dolphins, and they will come! Only a few times has this Sequence been rung, and we always hope that a third time will never come!" Aranye then tosses a bell to those nearest her, and gives Khev, Zira, and Acire the task of carrying bells to those in the back.

"The Report Sequence." She rings the small bell, pushing the clapper from side to side for better control of the sounds. A second time she rings it, before announcing and going onto the Emergency Sequence. "Red-Alert is short, and very different from the other two." This Sequence is, indeed, wuite different, and shorter (by a little) as well. "Practice!" And after a momment, adding, "Softly."
