Author: Lian
Subject: Lian seated herself at a table, drawing in a long breath. . .

Field work was hard, but at least it took your mind off any problems you might have. But eating, eating was different. Eating was a task that you couldn't avoid thinking in tandem with. Lian sighed softly, picking up a hard-baked roll. She just stared at it for a few minutes, seemingly fascinated by the patterns etched on the roll's crust. In reality, she was thinking. She thought every day, of course, but this was different. She very rarely even considered her future, but today. . . today she would think about the mound of eggs stacked atop one another at the hatching grounds.
They called to her, those eggs, like a siren. She wanted to gaze at those eggs forever, as if they were jewels. Which, she thought, they were. Precious gems that would soon crack open and reveal her fate. But no use thinking like that. What was going to happen would happen. In the end, the dragons chose. Lian knew that. She just hoped beyond hope that one of those dragons imprisoned in those eggs was meant for her.
She finally finished her meal, much to her relief, and stood to go back to work in the fields. But somehow, her feet kept turning her towards the Hatching Sands. Stubborn, her feet were. They wouldn't let her go where she wanted to. Selfish, too. They would only go where they wanted to go, nowhere else. Sighing, she let her feet guide her to the Hatching Sands.
