Subject: Re: further reflection Author: dsl [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 16:00:46 09/14/01 Fri In reply to: dsl 's message, "further reflection" on 11:25:41 09/14/01 Fri a friend to whom i'd expressed my concerns [copies of my posts here] asked what was it that bothered me. here's a copy of my response. what bothers me: - the media complicity in spreading falsehoods and misinformation - the rush to "declare war" - the exploitation of emotion to manipulate public opinion - the obvious incapacity of the shrub, and other cabinet officials - the blind patriotic fever gripping the country - the repeated assertion that we will have to "balance" freedoms and security - the suspension of loyal opposition to the administration - the increasing hostility towards anybody with darker skin - the increasing hostility towards muslims in general - the expressed opinions of the public that freedoms should be given up to insure security - the seathing anger and hatred futher concerns: - military action is likely to be against not just the terrorists, but against the countries that harbor them: civilians - military action involving not just air strikes, but land forces - military actions that will last years, not weeks - military actions that will provoke further, more extreme responses from gov'ts that have nuclear and biological warfare capabilities [iraq, iran, libia, syria, etc] - military actions by china, north korea, or another country while we are otherwise occupied - military actions against israel in retaliation of our retaliations to provoke further war to defend israel. - resumption of the draft i simply don't have any faith in our gov't not to screw this up and lead us into a sustained period of war on a global scale. things i want to know: - why hasn't dick cheney been seen or heard from? - why has dick cheney been spirited to camp david? - why isn't the press challenging the lies of the gov't? - why has nobody mentioned that when osama bin laden announced to the world that a big event was coming, the president took off for texas on "vacation" and dick cheney disappeared from view? things that come to mind: - this is so very convenient for the shrub - can you imagine a better way to solidify his shakey position as president select than by a good old fashioned war? - when america was the place that aided, harbored and trained the terrorists that bombed oklahoma city, nobody suggested bombing the center of the country back to the stone age. just a few things i can articulate about what concerns me so much.
