>>My son left Nov.18th,2002 It was one of the hardest things I did watching him leave. Than the letters started and they made me ill. He was unhappy and thought he made a mistake. well now he is doing better can not beleive he is going to get thru this but knows he will. He said he is sorry for being a lazy kid and if he knew than what he knows now he would have appriciated things that he took for granted. This is hard but as you and your son we will all make it and the young men we get back will be better for it.

Paris Island is in SOuth Carolina in the town of Buadford. It's located SE tip od South Carolina its a small town with a large marine preseance near by. Bascially Paris Island is tough as nails its no joke even for people who go physically fit. In my opinion MArine basic is the toughest of all branches

I DO NOT THINK SHE WILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT; SHE HAS SEVERAL HEALTH PROBLEMS (INCLUDING A BAD KNEE, ASTHMA, AND KIDNEY PROBLEMS - I DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW SHE PASSED THE PHYSICAL) SHE RECENTLY HAD A MISCARRIAGE AND IS NOT IN GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE AT ALL. HER FIANCE AND I WERE BOTH VERY SURPRISED WHEN SHE MADE THE DECISION AND SIGNED ON ONE DAY AT SCHOOL WITH NO WARNING. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION THEY CAN GIVE ME ABOUT PARIS ISLAND IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi my boyfriend is fixing to graduate from basic training and it has been the hardest thing i have ever done in my whole life is to let go of the one man that i truely love but as time goes on you learn that what they are doing is very important to them and it means alot to them when you stand behind them 100% they need you to tell them how proud you are and that you love them and what they do takes guts and pride. I am proud to say that my boyfriend comes home the 23 of august and he just found out about his home catching on fire and he has lost every thing he owns so keep in mind what they do not only makes them strong but makes them take things like mike (my boyfriend) deal with bad situations better so be proud it is not a mistake it is a good thing we need some back bone in our nation

My son graduates from Paris Island April 11. I just received my first phone call from him today. He says he's doing great and doesn't regret his decision. We need to pray for all our young men. God bless America!

He's in good hands I assure you, he will be asked to do nothing that they have not done or thousands of Marines have done.

The Drill instructors are under a lot of watch full eyes and are held to a very high standard. Your son will have his own free time to write to you and they seal the letters prior to sending them. the instructors have no idea what they are writing. The Drill instructors will only tell them to be positive in the writing to ease the minds of their family.

Don't get me wrong, the first few weeks are the toughest and the most demanding. As time goes on he will understand what is goping on and he will adjust. The time away is the most demanding, be positive for him when you write.

He will be a changed person once you see him again, beleived me, I was, am.

Hello Miss,

I understand your feelings. My mother felt the same way. My sister is coming home from boot camp today, and I cant wait to see her. She has written us many letters because their writing privileges are UN limited. The DI's do not ask the recruits to “lie” of any kind when either writing or speaking to their family and friends, about the things they go through there. My sister was VERY honest. Now, some can’t handle boot camp for reasons, and drop out. Those who are strong make it to the graduation. My sister graduated today and all throughout her training experience in Paris Island, she has enjoyed every minute of it! She hardly complained at all. Now, I know you may have a son going through the same things, except different because he’s a man. (Or soon will be) But, they are treated (man and woman) equally when it comes to training, and my sister says it’s not all that bad. Yes, she did get a chance to call home. But that’s because their platoon won a championship tournament and were given a 10 min calling card. So you just might hear from him! And for your worries, give them to God…. because He controls everything. He is looking out for your son, ma’am! You will see your son again soon! And I promise you he will be a different boy from when you sent him out. He will be a man! God Bless America! God Bless you. I will pray for you.
~Ashley~ 17 yrs.

I totally understand how it feels. :( My boyfriend left for paris island about 3 weeks ago. And it just so hard. I miss him so much. And the bad thing is, he only got to send out one post card with his address on it, and i cant get in touch with his parents to get the address to write him :( Do you happen to have it? I was looking online but i cant find anything. I know he's wondering why I havent written him. I dont want him to think I have abandoned or forgot about him. Please write me back at ca210@charter.net. I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks,
Shay

as a marine who has already passed through paris island some time ago, i think it would be wise for the parents not to put pressure on their kids by letting them know that you are worried. just encourage your son or daughter and let them know you support their decision. because the more the parents worry the more the recruit worries. recruits need to be more focosed on get the mission accomplished (graduating) wrather than wishing they could be home with mom and dad.
