The village has no authority over this land. Since you are so hot to trot about the Town of Hempstead, give them a ring and watch as they spring into action, because there is nothing the village can do. "As for illegal means being used to cause harm to the project, that is their property that they own and pay taxes on." We all pay taxes for a lot of things. That does not mean I can use them unbridled. I pay an income tax, but that does not mean I can use my income for illegal purposes. The Colwells must follow the same laws that we do, regardless of whether or not they pay taxes. "They handed in the appropriate paperwork and did what they set out to do with their property." Correct. The Colwells went through the motions, but did not obtain a legal basis for demolition. This is not only cowardly, but dangerous. You see, permits are obtained partly to ensure that the demolition will not release asbestos. Apparently the Colwells had little interest in the safety of residents. They moved to obtain a permit and it did not come fast enough for them so they went ahead with it anyway. Furthermore, even if they did obtain a permit, they are required to wait 48 hours before demolition. It was an act against the community. It was our first post office and general store. Part of our heritage was destroyed through their actions. As someone who pays taxes to the village, I expect it to help maintain the historically significant aspects of our village. With the development of the waterfront, the caliber of the investors in the immediate vicinity will dramatically increase. White trash areas like the Duck and the surrounding properties will be much more marketable to potential developers if they see a vivacios waterfront. I'll bet you get some special perks from them. Let's set the record straight, shall we. Depending on who you get your story from, the Colwell's did what they were supposed to do and the village did not do their part. The Colwell's submitted the paperwork for the demolition and they did wait 48 hours for the work to begin. This was not an act of vandalism as it was to their own property and they are not submitting claims to be reimbursed for it's destruction. Since you seem to "know it all" here's a fact about the little league park. It is NOT land under the control of the Town of Hempstead. There has been correspondence with the town supervisor and with Councilman Santino that will verify that the park is under the complete control of the village. That is why the village does not have to follow the same rules and regulations as the other little league parks. It is on village property. It is run by the East Rockaway Recreation Department and the village. So, if I were "hot to trot" about the Town of Hempstead and they owned the land, I would make sure my friend was in touch with them. My reason for diverting attention from the EPI issue was to point out the fact that the village follows and quotes code when it affects them and is to their benefit, not when it affects it's residents. So, before you try to give a history lesson and legal dissertation to the posters on this forum, maybe you should do your homework. The village has not let people who can get them know about them. The hot dog stand and bait store got grant money and they are going to redo and put in more stores.
