In reply to: collingwoodj 's message, "COLLINGWOOD 44 LIST BREAKDOWN PRESEASON for 25" on 13:34 28/11/24 Thu

ANALYSIS:

MIDS:
N.Daicos Pendlebury DeGoey Crisp Mitchell Perryman Allan Long Macrae Sullivan

Nick Daicos is the player we build our side around for the next ten years the way we did with Pendlebury the last ten years.

A genuinely generational player.

Can't wait to see what he can deliver in 2025.

DeGoey at his best is a better player than Petracca. Better by foot in field, where he rivals Jeremy Cameron, and better at goal.

If Jordan has his best every year and best ever finals season it goes a long way to us winning this year.

Our for right now gun along side tge last gun in Pendles and our next on in Nick.

Pendles remains a generational talent as agless and talented as any of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic IMHO.

We bat deep and we have some big big boys in this group.

Allan and Long are a pair of massive units, I have high hopes for both boys. Long looks to have a genuine midfielders tank already and can tackle hard. Allan should set that Melbourne game as his baseline and try to tear every game apart.

Nick, Perryman, Allan and Long collectively give me a sense of assurance for the centre square midfield group for years to come.

Nick, Pendles and a fit DeGoey are still as good a starting 3 as anyones this year IMO.

It's become the deepest part of our list, when for years we had the likes of Wills and Seir and the Brown brothers clogging things here.

Macrae and Sullivan in the last chance saloon, but IMO both can play.

WINGS:
Sidebottom Lipinski Demattia Hayes

Really like the look of Hayes early. Lipinski I rate higher than some on here and I believe the club does too, elite user, can run all day, an obvious choice for a wing.

Sidebottom surely in his last year. Not a lot of depth here, Hyphen can play this role at a pinch.

MEDIUM BACKS:
J.Daicos Houston Maynard Quaynor Markov Ryan Parker Jiath

Josh training at half back along with Houston indicates we will be trying to seriously launch attack from the D50 line in 25.

Maynard and Quaynor our mainstays in the back pockets.

Good depth here with all the boys from Markov down showing traits.

MEDIUM FORWARDS:
Elliot Hill Shultz McCreery Harrison

Elliot still elite, but any year could be his last.

Hill and Shultz mean we will have ground level bite up forward for years to come.

McCreery is McCreery. Play him on thier best rebounding defender every week.

Harrison looks to be recovering well, has shown traits.

RUCKS:
Cameron Cox Steene Smit

Cameron would be in the conversation for our most important player along with Nick and Moore i reckon.

Cox still very good insurance and would be wanting to prove he is still a best 22 player for us.

I hold hope for the kids, especially if either can clunk marks on a regular basis.

KEY BACKS:
Moore Howe Frampton Dean

Moore is IMO our most important player. With him in the side we have someone who CAN compete with any forward in the comp. If your side has that its difficult for an opponent to pull a Pagans Paddock on you.

Frampton an admirable back up here IMO but not a first choice 22 player at this stage for mine.

Howe. People here keep saying he's not a key defender but I don't get it. He is a similar key defender to Scicily who is as good as they get.

Call him "intecept" defender if you like but the logical spot to name him is at CHB marking, disposing into the midfield with Josh and Houston running at his flanks.

Dean has shown traits.

KEY FORWARDS:
Mihocek McStay Membery West

Finally some seemingly genuine depth here. Mihocek, McStay and Membery are all proven marking forwards. They all compete.

West looks a likely type in the Mihocek mould. Thats what i want. Competitors.

Best of luck to Kreugs with whatever he is doing next.

UTILITIES:
Hyphen McInnes Johnson Cochran

Underrated role as Hyphen proves. McInnes a likely competitor for this role, as would be Chochran when fit and available. Johnson has elite traits, along with Macrae and Sullivan and Markov, very much in the last chance saloon for 25.

CONCLUSIONS:

I like our list this year as much as any year i can remember.

Sidebottom
Mitchell
Cox
McInnes
Johnson
Markov
Macrae
Sullivan
Ryan
DeMattia

My bottom 10 for 2025 in the sense that I think all else being equal these are the most likely to be in the delisting/retirement coversation at years end.
