The reason he's not seen as a "key defender" (at least by me) is because you can't play him on the oppositions key forwards with any confidence that he will beat them.

Curnow, H.McKay, King brothers, Larkey, Lynch, Hogan, take your pick... He's not beating any of them unless he gets a run and jump at it - even then it's easier said than done.

To his advantage, we play a team defense more so than 1 on 1. So he has more freedom to be loose, more support from his teammates and can jump in from the side (or back) - which he is very good at it.

But traditionally, we expect a CHB to be able to compete with the big boys. To be a similar size to them. To not be outmuscled or out reached or beaten on a lead. To be able to shut them down. I love Howe and rate him highly but I don't think that describes him.
As the third tall, absolutely. He should be a starter in the team.

It's also horses for courses. Not every team has 2 genuine key forwards. They might have 1 and an undersized one that would be more suited to Howe. In that case, perhaps Howe could play CHB.

For now, my ideal lineup would still have Frampton in it. Purely because he offers that big body to at least be competitive with. And it frees Howe up to do what he does best as the support act. It also gives us more flexibility to swing Howe forward if we want to. Which maybe we won't do so much now that Membrey is on board - but we'll see how we go with injuries, etc.
