The chill in the air had forced the silver and brown alpha into the castle. She had padded quietly, despite her cracked and rouch pads, throughout the castle’s crumpling rooms. The stones that had built this place had originated higher in the mountains and had been carted down by tamed versions of the land’s wild horses. They had been stacked and chiseled to perfection. Kosses puzzled over these actions as she wandered room through room. She moved to the east side of the building to one of the smaller rooms. The east wall had crumbled to the woods below. The sun baked the stone floor there and that was where Kosses had taken roost for her morning nap. She had stretched wide, her paws flicking from time to time. Her ears twitched flies away occasionally during her slumber.

The sun was shifting away from her and hitting the remaining roof and casting the shadow closer and closer to her tail. She heard the voices in her dreams before they drifted into her reality. Her body snapped to attention and she was on her feet quickly. She hurried down the steps into the front foyer. She passed the murder holes and the decaying wood door without second thought. Then she emerged on the steps. She was only white in a few places but the early morning sun soaked up that white and saturated it with the deepest of yellows and golds. It contrasted dramatically with the silver of her coat and brought the color of her eyes to a more magnificent sheen.

She surveyed the scene with some caution. Her eyes drifted to the magnificent coat and build of Gavin first. She fought the smile that tugged on her lips. She looked down to see the pup chasing after something. She tilted her head in slight confusion. Another pup? Something inside of her immediately sounded the alarm. It was magnified in the sleepy residue of her brain. Something wasn’t right, but she couldn’t tell what. Was this pup Moina’s? Had they lied about the number of pups? No. that wasn’t it. This pup was older and held no smell or resemblance to the siblings. Was he a decoy for a larger attack? She held that thought in the back of her head. This attempt had been tried before.

She moved down the steps. Gavin was seated and somewhat relaxed in his position. Kosses’ tail was now the highest in authority. She had caught the tail end of their discussion and was curious of what question he was going to ask. She nodded for Gavin to continue. Introductions could wait. The female chanced a slight smile to the pup.
