The Dog Days of summer are upon us and conversely there's little to do with your dog, just too hot. A few bright spots, but things won't really start to roll again until Sept.

Fri 7/26 7pm-9pm, LUCKETTS, VA: Night at the Vineyards http://www.hart90.com/Events/Vineyards.htm sponsored by HART animal rescue. Thirty bucks gets you a vegetarian buffet, wine, and a beautiful setting overlooking the Potomac, although it's unclear whether you can take your dog.

Sat 8/3 10am-12n, ELLICOTT CITY, MD: Woof in the Woods-the HoCo dog group http://hocodog.org/ has been having these walks at Centennial Park http://www.digitalcity.com/baltimore/entertainment/venuemap.adp?vid=40627 on the first Sat of the month. It's a nice park with a lake you can sneak your dog into for a swim as long as you don't mind a little muck. Your dog won't.

Sat 8/3 1pm (approx), HERNDON, VA: Canine musical freestyle demo and workshop at the Fairfax Co. 4H Fair and dog show http://www.4hfairfax.org/visitors.html at Frying Pan Park sponsored by Perfect Pets 4H dog training club. Wanna dance with your dog? Learn how from the pros of Chesapeake Rock n' Rovers. Come early and enjoy the other events, the fair itself runs from 9am- 5pm. More info-Joanne Graves dog_4h@hotmail.com or 703- 642-1746.

Sat 8/3 HOFFMANVILLE, MD: K9 Trailblazers http://www.k9trailblazers.org/gunpowderfalls/hemlockgorge_hike_080302.htm hike at Gunpowder Falls near Prettyboy Reservoir.

Sat 8/3 CORDORUS, PA: CNC advanced water workshop, contact Karen Parry oldemillnewf@att.net for details.

Fri 8/16 and Sat 8/17, EASTON, MD: Talbot Kennel Club http://www.infodog.com/panels/md.htm All-breed, obedience.

Sun 8/18, 8am-7pm, ARNOLD, MD: Annapolis KC http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2002082302.HTM. All-breed, no obedience, held at Anne Arundel Community College. As always at these shows, bring your own water or at least a bowl you can fill up in the restrooms.

Sat 8/31 8am-?, ALEXANDRIA, VA: 11th Annual Canine Games, hosted by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria http://www.alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/special_events.cfm. Not much on the website; you get far more info by calling 703-838-4774 x321. AWLA always puts on quite a bash, well-attended, organized and fun.

Sat 8/31 WESTMINSTER, MD: Flyball Tournament http://nafadb.flyball.org/cgi-public/pubutil?TOURNDET&EVENT=02010202 hosted by No Speed Limit.

Every Tu and Th 5-8 pm ALEXANDRIA, VA: Yappy Hour- http://doggiehappyhour.com . Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later)through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.
Every Th 5pm-730pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Yappy Hour at Loew's Hotel http://loewsannapolis.com/ for directions, phone #. A great idea with poor execution. Two $4-$5 drink specials, no food specials, no outdoor service, scanty canine attendance and no effective barrier between you and West St. You have to know to ask for water bowls and a voucher for two free hours of $5/hr parking-they don't offer. Could be OK if you arrange to meet there with a group.

Every Fri 7pm - ? ANNAPOLIS, MD: Newf Stroll at the City Dock, weather permitting.

Every Sat 9am-11am, ARLINGTON, VA: Puppy Party see http://www.arlingtondogs.org/puppies.html for details.

Monthly Dog Events are also posted at http://voy.com/52810/ , a free and easy to use bulletin board site. That way you can just bookmark it instead of saving/printing this. However, the links don't seem to work. -Xavier
