I'm a fairly recently new fan of John, I do think he is one of the greatest guitar players around at the moment, and he's a fantastic singer songwriter too, his songs give me goosebumps, they're so haunting and real.
anyways, I've not read much about the river pheonix incident, to be truthful i didnt' know john was involved...But like someone has already said, they were both Junkies at the time. even in river was a 'controlled user' it's still an addiction, they were young, rich and had problems that no one can really understand truly unless they've lived thru it. I've worked with addicts in the past, it doesn't matter what people say to them or how bad they are physically and emotionally, the're looking for the next bigger and better fix. Street drugs are unreliable in quality, dose etc. river may have got a dodgy dose and taken more than he really should have, that's the nature of the game. it is a shame about river, he was a terrific actor (although i'm was too young to appreaciate it at the time, being 10 when he died), but what's happened has happened, and only the people who were there will really know what happened that night.
I can see where u're coming from tho!
