The season 2001 was the breakthrough year for Aber's poerful hitting youngster. He had provided entertainment for many spectators with his dashing approach to batting. Yet, it wasone of his more subdued performances that is the most memorable. Aber were away to Llanybydder in an important league game, and Davies strode to the wicket at number 5. He proceeded to stroke the ball around the field for singles and twos, for what looked like a completely different approach. To counter this, the home team introduced Gareth Davies from the OJ end. Known as castle to his team mates for obvious reasons, this bowler initially troubled the batsman. To increase the pressure, Castle was vocal in encouraging his fielders to move in for the catch, and there was no doubt that Davies heard this.

Quite suddenly, something seemed to change. It was if Davies was metemorphosising from Dr Banner into the hulk. His grip on the bat was tightened considerably and his stance widened. The next ball was a good ball, which davies countered with a slog-sweep, sending the ball over the pavillion. The noise of encouragement from the Aber team were soon superseded by the loud sound of obviously the ball smashing a car window. Davies showed a huge grin to the bowler, as castle tried to counter with his own form of intimidation. The conversation went as follows.

"Hey, boyo. Sounds as if you have smashed a car window. One of my team mates is going to be spitting with you"

Davies grinned

A team mate was sent to assess the damage. Castle continued:

"You will pay for that"

The assessment was returned

"Hey Castle, its your car window mate"

To which castle said:

"Fuck"

And to which davies said:

"Ooooh"
