I remember you talking about Roy pushing tempo ad nauseum, but from studying the stats site I linked before (which showed leading the nation in shot attempts, rebounds, possessions, etc ... basically all the big men categories) confirmed the need to push the ball in to the big guys as much as humanly possible, plus for the season UNC was waaaay down the rankings as far as percentage of points coming from 3pt shots, plus a total eFG of 50% (with 3pt pct hovering right around 32033, which is the eFG equivalent of 50% 2s shooting).

What I saw was White not able to truly push the ball due to lack of elite speed & wearing out (he'd probably work best subbing in 10-15 mins per game), plus him bringing the ball down and just merely getting the ball into one of the bigs along either side of the lane, which led to them almost immediately turning & shooting the rock from the midrange w/o benefit of the ballhandler drawing defenders to him for quality assist opportunities (UNC also among the college game leaders in team assists). This in turn caused the offensive board crashing to be kept to a mimimum & thus 2nd chance points also dropped way down. I'm sure part of it was also lack of familiarity & synergy between the 'new' guy being thrust into the QB's role.

Very valiant how UNC kept scrapping & clawing back to almost even (from 6-10 down) a number of times, until the big KU run that finally put them away.

White was trying hard but was just overmatched both size & speed wise (a couple of crucial tunrnovers, blocks & fouls from him during the critical stretch late). Clearly he wore down at crunch time, even though Roy did get him a rest right before this. A gazelle ballhandler pushing the rock (& able to get to he rim, if not to also dish) would have likely made a huge difference in that game down the stretch.

I never saw UNC play during the regular season but I've got to think their flow to the basket & 2nd chance action was much more ferocious & fluid than constant stationary 10ft pullup jumpers along the lane by the bigs that seemed to be mostly all the offense could muster in transition in the second half. I bet there was also a lot more big to big interior passing for easy layups due to superior multiple attack on the basket from the large bodies meeting at the rim in tandem.

Too much uncharacteristic 3-pters there as the meat of the second half wound down also contributed to what I'm guessing was way off the usual mark in offensive rebounding & putbacks.
