Response was to your piece that said CEC was favored by Ds while CB was generally a R stronghold. I wouldn't imagine seeing you personally caught dead in either one, although more likely CEC due to the kids' demographic ...

Portland & Lexington (although apples & oranges) sure look to be roughly the same size when comparing the demographic statistics though. Urban Portland proper comes in with ca 64K population, whereas Lexington's is almost 300K - but that's because it's an urban-county government unit 'city' here that counts the entire county population. My own guess is the 'urban' component here comes in ca 90K.

The defined Lexington metropolitan area is 472,099 people and a Combined Statistical Area of 687,173 people vs Portland's immediate metropolitan area ranked 147th in the nation in 2000 with a population of 243,537 (I'm thinking this corresponds roughly more to the 300K urban/county figure here), while the Portland/South Portland/Biddeford metropolitan area included 487,568 total inhabitants. This has increased to an estimated 513,102 inhabitants as of 2007.[23]

In addition, Lexington is also the unofficial 'capital' of pretty much the entirety of eastern Kentucky beyond the surrounding Georgetown/Frankfort/Richmond/Paris/Versailles 'metro' designation, of which Lexington (due to the horsefarm 'ag zone' belt) seemingly will maintain its unique character.

I'm sure Lexington lacks the strict urban core of Portland' plus Lex was actually the first city in the US (in 1958) which established an urban agricultural zone program around the city to protect the horsefarm area encircling it, which will seemingly always insure this place of keeping the discrete character of a "big college town" (I tell people Lexington is not actually a "city") w/o urban sprawl. The fact that I-64 & I-75 don't actually route through downtown (instead pass to the near north & east while running concurrently here) help in this regard as well.
