Young Unionists make their presence felt at UUJ Campus
23rd September 2004

In an unprecedented move the youth wing of the Ulster Unionist Party, the UYUC, have taken steps to set up an association at the University’s Jordanstown campus. At today’s Fresher’s Fayre the UYUC had an information stall and were very successful in recruiting new members.

In a statement campus activist Stephen Warke and first year student Michael Shilliday said: "We are absolutely delighted to be here today at the University and we are confident that this is the start of a bright future for the party at the Jordanstown campus. We have had a lot of interest from students, not just here in Jordanstown, but also in Coleraine where we are also establishing an association. The new recruits here at UU will be valued members of both the UYUC and of the party.

"We have already been active on campus throughout the summer working with "the save our pool" campaign to keep the Jordanstown pool open and are looking forward to becoming involved in more campaigns throughout the year."

Two new recruits who signed up at the Fresher’s Fayre Robert McKee and Steven Legge said,

"We are delighted to have joined such a dynamic and innovative party and we are certainly impressed by the efforts made at the Jordanstown campus today to recruit new members. We look forward to getting involved in both the Young Unionists and in the senior party"
