Took me about six hours to type this all up! Hope you
all enjoy it. It’s almost nine pages single spaced in
Word. But I just couldn’t leave anything out! This
gives me hope for the three papers I have due next
week... Eeks...maybe I can ask for some extensions...But it was COMPLETELY worth missing a week of school for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well…here it goes! I’ll do my best to shorten it down without leaving out any important details. It took me over half an hour just to TELL all my roommates the whole thing! Anyways…it all started last week when I met the band Dishwalla. I asked their guitarist for a pick, and he handed me the one he had in his hand and said, “This had brought me some luck, maybe it will be lucky for you.” So just for the heck of it I brought it with me to the Goo show.
My flight from LA to Phoenix went pretty well, and
there was this really cute guy on the plane, across
the isle from me and one row back. I turned around to
get a better look when he sat down, and he saw me and
smiled. I turned to look again later on and he smiled
at me again. I was like hey this is pretty cool, he’s
hot! I wanted to talk to him but I didn’t know what
to say, and I figured well, he probably lives in
Phoenix or something, and I’ll never see him again
since I live in CA. Why bother… When we got off the
plane in Phoenix I went to sit down and wait for my
friend to pick me up, and the cute guy did a major
head turn as he walked by me, lol! I was like
doggonit, why didn’t I talk to him, he was totally
interested! Oh well, too late now.So I got in line at 9:30 am the morning of the show.
I was determined on being first in line! I brought a
book to read for homework, but I got so cold that I
had to jog around just to keep the blood pumping. So
I only got about 2 hours of reading in. While I was
sitting there alone in the cold, two guys came by on a
little cart, and asked if I wanted a chair, thinking I
was a security guard. I laughed and told them no I
was just a fan waiting in line to see the Goo Goo
Dolls! We got to talking and I told them how I flew out from CA and one of the guys, Brian, told me he was going to try and find a backstage pass for me. I never even asked! I was like, you guys aren’t getting my hopes up for nothing are you? Are you actually serious?! Brian said yeah, I deserved it for coming all the way from CA and waiting in line for so long! So they took off and said they’d be back later. A couple hours went by and I was still the only one in line, and Brian and the other guy drove up in a car. I was pretty shocked to actually see them come back.
Brian asked if he could take a picture of me, saying
he takes pictures of all the people he meets on the
road. Then I was talking to him through the car
window, and his friend took another picture of us.
Brian gave me his business card and wrote his cell
phone number on it. He said he was still seeing what he could work out with the pass. They asked if I wanted anything to eat and said they’d come find me again later and took off again.
A little later I poked my head through the opening in
the gate to see how the setup was coming, and two
other guys in a cart drove up and started talking to
me. They said they would try and get me backstage too! Glen and Steve were their names. I’m like are you just kidding around with me or are you serious?
Glen was like, “Don’t worry, we’ll make sure you’re
taken care of.” And they drove off. I didn’t know
what to make of that! But I still didn’t want to get
my hopes up. All these people just OFFERING to get me backstage just because I was there early?! No way. I wasn’t even expecting Brian to come back. Around noon some other girls joined me in line. And lo and behold Brian did come back and told me to come with him backstage! To the other girls he was like, “When she gets back she’s still first in line!” I was in disbelief. This guy actually did come through! So he took me backstage, and said he had just seen them fooling around with guitars back there, that’s why he came to get me, but they weren’t there anymore. He let me tag along with him for a little bit then drove me back to the front of the line and dropped me off.
A little later the 3 girls in line and I went to look
for the Goo Goo Dolls ourselves. We got inside and
hung out in a corner of the tent for a while and
watched sound check. Unfortunately none of the Goo
Goo Dolls were on stage. But suddenly I noticed that
that guy I had seen on the plane was up there! No
WAY! I was like, you have to be JOKING me. I had a
chance to talk to one of their sound guys??? And I
passed it up??!! I was kicking myself. We tried to
get a little further inside but security caught us and
kicked us out. We went back to the line. Someone had said they saw the Goos out near the horse stables that were near the place where the concert was at.
Apparently there was going to be a horse show that day
too. So we walked over there, but no luck. Back to
the line. It was getting nearer and nearer to
showtime, and more people were getting in line. A DJ
from the local radio station drove by and we waved him
down. He came and talked to us for a bit, then
eventually set up a table by his truck in the nearby
parking lot with all the radio station goodies. So
then security was finally letting people line up at
the actual gates so we went and claimed our spots.
Just about 5 minutes later Brian came back and took me
backstage again! I was a bit worried about the timing
though…because they were supposed to open the gates at
4pm and it was already 3:30. But I went with Brian
anyway. He let me tag along while he did some stuff
backstage…gathered up some cables and stuff. Then
this lady came over holding a microphone, with a
camera man with her. She was from a local news
station and asked to interview me! I think Brian had
tipped her off to me, because he was commenting on
getting interviewed earlier and I was like huh? What
are you talking about? But she was asking me how long
I’d been in line and I told her about flying in from
CA and all that. It was cool! Then Brian had to take
his truck somewhere and left me with his friend. We
heard the Goo Goo Dolls start their soundcheck and he
took me in the tent with him and we watched from a
distance. He was like how do you know that’s even
really them up there? I said are you joking me?! You
can totally tell that’s them! Heck I could tell
Johnny and Robby a mile away with that crazy hair of
theirs! We hung out and watched the rest of their
soundcheck, then Brian came back, and we went and
talked to this security guard they knew. They told me
he would be able to hook me up. (Brian and his friend
didn’t have access to the greenroom where the Goo Goo
Dolls were now.) So this secrurity guard, Aaron, I
think had the hots for me. I humored him for a bit,
cuz he WAS pretty cool. He told me he’d talk to some of the security guys he knew who’d be able to escort me to the Goos if they wanted to. He kept saying THEY’d find ME after the show. I was like yeah right! Okay, you’re cool and all, but I just don’t see how they’d find me. He kept saying they WILL they WILL, the venue is small! I was like yeah small, but 10,000 people, and probably at LEAST 100 with dark hair in a pony tail! (end of pt 1)
