17. BALL OUT OF BOUNDS (NZ RULES)
"The ball is caused to go out of bounds when any part of the ball touches the line or vertical plane of the Side-line or Goal-line"

"A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes through the plane of the front of the goal."

So, basically, - when any part of the ball touches the imaginary vertical plane formed by the sideline or goaline it is deemed out of play: remember a ball is spherical, so although it may not have touched the physical sideline, it can still be out.

You should also be aware that the ball is also considered out of play if it touches a goal support; eg if you have goal support ropes (even if they are technically inside the playing area) the ball is out once it touches goal supports.

If there is any possibility of having your goals modified so that the net is held off the faceof the goal (pulled back) this could help clear up confusion. Sometimes it is very hard to see whether the ball was prevented from passing through the face of the goal by the net (especially corners).
