But if I move my place in line I'll lose
And I have waited, the anticipation's got me glued
I am waiting for something to go wrong
I am waiting for familiar resolve

He had been excited at first to be teaching more higher level courses this term, because though he appreciated the enthusiasm of the first year students, he thought that it would be nice to work with some more scholarly folks. He was the major english lit buff, afterall, and loved to be able to have real meaningful discussions - as opposed to teaching composition to kids just out of high school. However, now that he was helping his TA grade the lengthy, challenging papers that accompanied third and fourth year teaching responsibilities, he was kind of having second thoughts. He just wasn't too sure what he was going to say to Keila. Though of course he was expecting her to be excited for him, things had been so good lately, and a whole year was a long time to be gone - because of course he wouldn't stay here. He was thinking probably either Oxford - he had some colleagues there who he could work with - if he wanted to study or write, or he had heard that a school in Kibera, in Kenya, was in need of a teacher. It was a lot for him to think about, and it was exciting, but still worrisome at the same time. Keila meant the world to him, and he didn't want to lose her again. His mind wandered easily as he sat alone at a quiet table in the corner, nursing a tall black coffee and staring at the wall - his bag unopened at his feet...
