With the human rights abuses that continue in China against the Tibetans and anyone who speaks out against the regime, should western societies participate in the summer olympics this year?

My personal opinion is that while it would certainly disappoint the athletes, it would also drive home to China's "government" that they cannot continue to torture and imprison people for simply speaking their minds.

The latest protests have brought to mind the days when South Africa was banned from even attending the Games due to their policies of Apartheid and the political imprisonment of people like Nelson Mandella
