Let me know if you need a few pointers, but all wheel drive is a bit beyond anything i've worked on. Gel packs are good, but not really required. Depends on the depth of your pockets. What you need to plan for is something going wrong. Do you want to get back on the road quickly or be stuck? One thing you need to be aware of beyond the first thought of how "wonderful" this thought is is the fact that you are pretty much on your own. help will not be readily available and your going to be on your own in alot of situations. I spent over 2 years in an electric car (i still own it) It was not completely without it's head aches. i would recommend a minimum journeymans electricians course. Covering DC controls, inverter operation, etc. Good luck. >I'm looking for a good condition used small car that >has a thrashed engine to do an electric conversion on. > There is a local electric vehical assosiation that >has a variety of skills and ideas for converting >production cars for use as commuter vehicles. > >Basically, I'm looking at gel pack batteries, and >having electric motors mounted to all four wheels. >this would allow me to cut out two wheels when I reach >cruising speed, saving battery power for increased >range and accelleration. > >Any thoughts?
