It will not directly act on pollution or lower our toxic load. It places everything under managed care and you see how well that works in healthcare. It is not surprising that wilderness, especially the arctic region presents such a challenge. It is really too fragile to withstand managed care. The mistake is that scientific thought is considered valid enough to make assumptions about ecosystems or the natural world. You see the affects of these assumptions all around you. As nature disappears before your eyes people are comforted by assumptions. We will never be able to understand the arctic or all the forces that shape its existance by measuring the amount of ice it has, you will know it is changing. It has never stopped changing. I think one of the most interesting things I have learned from science is how the emperor penguins have survived for thousands of years in arctic conditions isolated from mankind. If we use this knowledge to restore ourselves then science has done a good deed. If we think we can improve and in anyway influence this in a better way then it is just another mistake. If you haven't seen March of the Penguins, I recommend it. I have some difficulty seeing capitalism or economy as a natural practice or force shaping human behavior. I will have to think about survival as a force for change a bit more. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
