In reply to: JMHO 's message, "Irish Dance has a problem just as big as the cheating. The use & abuse of dancers to promote dance schools and culture without pay. Aside from developing confidence for a select few, there is no inherent benefit for dancers to perform unpaid. Looking back at over 15 years of parades and performances and the month of March it now seems like abuse." on 16:55:16 03/15/24 Fri

Very few dancers can carry a show. Most are ok in a group setting all the way down to hopping around doing the jig as a beginner. Is an individual performance worth, say 20 per dancer? 30? 10? Most shows aren’t more than an hour performing where the dancer gets additional instruction during the prep of the show. So if they were to say earn 20 each, then they would need to turn over the 25 or 30 for the teacher’s time who is mixing music, traveling to show, procuring sound equipment, choreographing the show, MCing the show and booking the show. The time dancer get to perform their art for others is invaluable. If you think they are being abused by being invited to dance a show, then say no.
