Subject: It all comes down to preparation and training. (little more inside)
In reply to: Concerned DM 's message, "How do dancers cope with competing when they have periods? Just heard a very successful school have their top female champions taking medications to stop periods completely. Is this an extreme measure or is it necessary to succeed and be at the top?" on 05:34:36 07/30/24 Tue

There have been several really good studies highlighting the benefits of training with your natural hormonal cycle as a woman. While yes there are some downsides during your period, ensuring you eat well with the right foods the week before can change how you feel competition week (and just in general).

Getting enough sleep the week before is also important.

  • It is very tough. I had severe pain with my periods which led to a diagnosis of endometriosis 11 years after initial onset of symptoms. I take my dancers’ pain seriously and refer them to their doctors for further evaluation. -- TCRG and ADCRG, 11:37:59 08/04/24 Sun
