Subject: Your insight about CLRG when the split happened makes a lot of sense.
In reply to: Very sorry!! 's message, "Would you consider sharing some of those warning signs that you missed while you were a dancer? You could really help some families if you could share this information." on 13:45:51 09/04/24 Wed

I have heard over and over that CLRG is where the best dancers are, and that is always meant to be a brag or a big selling point in deciding what org to join.
But after going to nationals this year all I could think was… yes the dancing is more competitive… but at what cost? The cheating, the abuse, the unbalanced life has certainly made for more skilled dancers, but not healthy happy dancers.

If you want to know more about red flag of abuse, safe sport has courses you could take to learn more. Or just do a google search of signs that a child is being groomed or bullied. You should be able to find resources to help you recognize the warning signs of a child being mistreated.

Unfortunately in Irish dance we have dancers being verbally abused, emotionally manipulated, and in some cases physically or sexually abused. It’s a terrible reality, but anywhere that there is an adult in charge of children these forms of abuse are likely to be found. This is because kids are taught to accept behavior from “trusted” adults such as teachers. And they don’t know that they can question whether something is appropriate. Abusers use this power dynamic to victimize children. There are things we can do to detour abusers in our community and a big one is educating teachers, parents, and students.

I agree with the OP it would be good to have teenagers take the safe sport course. I don’t think CLRG has the power to mandate it, but as a parent, it would be wise to take time to educate your kids on the matter.
