Subject: The only reason we have a block is because one region had one bad experience one year nearly 2 decades ago and lost money. Now we are forced into blocks every single year despite there being overwhelming demand for the host hotel.

One region negotiated a terrible deal with a hotel in the late 2000s. The hotel required way too many rooms at a bad price and the region fell far short of filling the block costing the region a small fortune in penalties. Ever since then, instead of trying to improve negotiations so that the block is filled just by the nature of being at the venue at a good rate, we've been stuck with mandatory blocks and facility fees every year. I guarantee you with the numbers that the NAIDC pulls every year, there would be no issue filling a block at the host venue even without a facility fee.
