Subject: Headquarters vs. "the sticks"
In reply to: Chris 's message, "Re: UBF life in Cincinnati" on 03:43:12 05/15/04 Sat

Another evidence for the increasing corruption in the headquarters is the fact that the 2001 reform movement primarily took part in the remote chapters, not in the headquarters. These headquarters (Seoul in Korea, Cologne/Heidelberg/Bonn in Germany, Chicago/Toledo) stayed unaffected and rejected any reform alltogether. In Germany, all chapters except the headquarters and a few marginal 1-family sattelite chapters joined reform. Kaleb Hong, the Europe leader, intrepreted this as a sign of invalidity or exiguity or falseness of the reform movement. He downplayed the reform movement saying that it happened only in the "provincial backwaters." His observation was right, but his interpretation was wrong. Reform could only happen in the provincial backwaters since the headquarter leaders are completely corrupt and want to remain in power and position with any means. They believe that admitting errors or repenting would mean "losing face" (one of the worst things that can happen to you if you have a Konfucianistic mindset) and also would mean that you lose your authority, credibilty and honor before people.

The reality is of course that these leaders have already lost any credibility and authority in the non-UBF world. The only way to get some credibility back would be honest repentance.

From my personal experience, Heidelberg UBF was less extreme than Chicago. But it was bad enough. One shepherd had a forced divorce from a Chicago member (she did not want to stay in UBF) and remarriage per order of Samuel Lee. I myself experienced an attempt of cancelation of my marriage and kind of kidnapping of my bride-to-be to a remote chapter in order to enforce this. I experienced also being expelled without reason or explanation and being reinvited without reason. (If you think coworking in UBF is your calling, you of course start to think God has abandoned you if you are expelled from UBF.) I meanwhile know of four suicides of UBF Heidelberg members (one of them was a shepherd) which UBF cannot be made fully accountable for, but UBF behaved very badly in that context. And there was a lot of spiritual abuse, coercice persuasion and all the other things you know from typical cults. I also know that my chapter leader had a very unhealthy relation with Samuel Lee and UBF, he had "sold his soul" to him, and now to Sarah Barry. This means he is decided to follow UBF, NO MATTER WHAT. He is like a gambler putting everything on one card, on the assumption that UBF is god's work no matter what, and he is decided to base and deliver his whole life on this assumption. I guess it might be similar with Sam Zun in Cinci.
