Tony, I do know that this is a very simple formula and us such has its limits. Of course there are Japanese people who care for these atrocities, just as on the other side there are stupid German neo nazis who deny that anything has been wrong with Hitler. I think I have written that shame-based and guilt-based cultures often coexist. Life is very complicated, humans are very complicated, societies are very complicated. And in these times of globalization, cultures and ideas mix a lot. Nevertheless we can see certain patterns. And I think these sociological terms are very applicable and useful to understand the fundamental difference beween the east and the west.
