To me, it is a foolish waste of time to engage in endless dogmatic debates over doctrine. It is much more worthwhile to study the Bible, believe the Bible and obey the Bible.
Can anybody comment on that sentence? I would like to comment something, but I can not really express my thoughts. Somehow Brian is a master of formulating things in a way that sound perfectly true, but the message he is communicating is totally wrong.

You can take this sentence at face value. Karcher does not value "doctrine", even though every form of interpretation of the Bible is a doctrine, and a Bible study is also an expression of doctrine.
A person's faith is bound to the doctrine of that person.
One wise man said many years ago: "Out of erroneous doctrine comes erroneous practice. To be orthodox (i.e. doctrinally right) in practice requires one be orthodox (i.e. doctrinally right) in teachings."
I would comment on that like this: people who refuse to expound on their teachings under the pretense that "it's not practical", those people are deceiving themselves and others - a person who says doctrine is worthless is forgetting two things:
First, Paul admonishes us to stay "in the healthy teaching". If we're not willing to discuss teachings, what makes us so sure that the ones we adhere to are healthy?
Second, belittling doctrine as a whole is counting the whole principle of orthodoxy (once again: being doctrinally right) little.

I think it tells you something, a wannabe Christian who is saying orthodoxy is worthless?
