Subject: Get all A's by faith for the glory of God
In reply to: Nick T. 's message, "New thread on doctrine" on 10:27:55 10/22/04 Fri

When I was in UBF, a common theme and "prayer topic" was for students to "get all A's by faith for the glory of God." Now, there is no Biblical basis for the leadership to force this on people. Actually it clearly promotes a performance-based legalistic corruption of Christianity, rather than pure grace.

It seems to me that UBF throws the phrase "by faith" around a lot. They can say anything they want, throw in the phrase "by faith" and think that they are right. The frequent use of the phrase "by faith" is used to divert attention from the reality that they are doing things "by human efforts," or "by deception," or "by coercive persuasion."

Also, UBF likes to throw around the phrase "for the glory of God." When I was in UBF I took the command "get all A's by faith for the glory of God seriously. I graduated summa cum laude. And I noticed that my chapter director made claims to UBF newcomers that "all UBF students have 4.0 GPA." In reality, the focus on getting A's seems to be for the glory of UBF. If the people in UBF are getting A's they must be smart and there must be something to UBF.

Anyway, I just wanted to bring up this fixation on grades, because I don't think it has been mentioned for awhile. I wonder what perspectives the readers of this board might have on the origins and purpose of this fixation. Did it begin with Ee Chang Woo? How widespread is the phenomenon?

Regards,
