Subject: New thread on doctrine

Tom F. started a very good thread on the errors of ubf doctrine, but the thread was somewhat blown off course by a ubf spammer, who added nothing to any discussion. With your permission, I woul dlike to start another thread on doctrine, free and clear of mischievous spammers. Here is the exact topic he began

It has been said plenty of times that UBF is socially and ethically corrupt. What about its doctrine, its belief systems? What incorrect beliefs does it hold on to (i.e., using scripture out of context, etc) that would make it crossover to being a cult? I have a few ideas, please add more:

One thing I would like to point out, is that any reputable Bible college will have numerous classes in doctrine and theology.

Here are the objectives to doctrine and theology study for undergrads at Moody.

These are the Program Objectives taken from page 158 of their undergraduate catalog

Program Objectives
Students who complete the requirements for this emphasis should

• Be familiar with the theological methods of study with an emphasis on exegetical procedures

• Be competently prepared in their understanding of the major biblical doctrines through systematic study

• Be able to correlate, integrate, and defend the various biblical doctrines

• Be prepared through historical and doctrinal orientation to evaluate theological developments

• Be developing a biblical, theological basis for Christian maturity, ethics, and service

On the other hand, we had a ubf defender sputing the ubf objective of 'to study the Bible and live according to its teachings'. The pitfalls here are
1. ubf does not study the Bible properly
2. ubf ignores the parts of the Bible that do not support it own objectives
3. ubf leaders are treated according to a different standard

And so on. I hope we can discuss doctrine as the reputable groups see it, and then compare that to the ubf doctrine.
