Subject: Wrong focus
In reply to: Brother in Christ 's message, "Re: John 5 - "Pick up your mat and walk"" on 12:19:24 11/08/04 Mon

The first clue i had that UBF was totally off base on this one was when i read a couple commentaries and the mat was not even mentioned! The total focus of the UBF message was not even mentioned as a main point in so many commentaries, go figure. Thanks again guys.

Now, that may be because to UBF, Jesus really isn't all that important. He's a side figure, the main actors are YOU, your UBF-SHEPHERD and GOD (who makes His will known to you through the Shepherd).

That was one of the many rocks on my road out of UBF, one day there was a message on the Jordan river crossing, the entire focus was on the ark bearers obeying the command to enter into the good land - and I simply "shared" in the "fellowship group" afterwards that this entire passage should be interpreted as a pointer to Jesus: Jesus carried the Law on His shoulders, Jesus bore the heavy weight of sin so that we don't drown in the waters, Jesus crossed the death waters to bring us into the Good Land, ...
... guess what?
I caugt a rebuke for that, those were the words of my "shepherd":

"We can't always focus on Jesus, if we always talk only about Jesus, it gets boring quickly".

Well, my response was: "If Jesus gets boring for you in THIS lifetime, then be prepared for an eternity full of boredom, because praising Jesus all day will be our only activity for eternity!" -- you wouldn't wonder that during the "coworker's meeting" I wasn't invited to share my thoughts?

But this is the true face of UBF, Jesus is boring for them, they rather look at themselves and people around them than on Jesus. "Look upon Jesus" is only a handy excuse when it comes to being unaccountable for one's own misdeeds.
