Hi BiC,
I think that message is genuine. First of all, why should anybody fake such a thing? Second, the language is authentic for a UBF Korean. Third, you are right, UBF Koreans usually don't respect Americans and don't ask for their input when it comes to questions of church leadership. But Gideon does not look for advice in spiritual matters or church leadership. He wants Brian to contact these parents and convince them that everything is OK with UBF. Gideon obviously thinks that American parents will listen to an American like Brian. Whenever there had been difficulties with parents, friends, the media, landlords or whoever, native members had to come forward as strawmen and resolve the doubts. I once had been such a straman, too. Brian has been proven to be a good strawman for UBF leaders and to haev some skills in painting UBF in nice colors and covering up and palliating the issues. So Gideon thinks he is the right man to do that job. For me, it's completely plausible.
