In my experience, UBF likes to paint women as having "cursed [sexual] desire" based on some twisting of passages early in Genesis. In this way, UBF has an extra weapon of guilt and shame that they try to use to manipulate and control women.

In my chapter, it was definitely the men who dominated over their wives, although I've heard that the opposite often occurs in UBF.

I completely disagree with Tom here. I think you are reading things into scripture that are not there. For a detailed account of the Pauline view on women and leadership in the church, please refer to this excellent site: http://www.christian-thinktank.com/fem09.html

I believe that men and women are completely equal in the church. Since leaving UBF, the best pastors I have had have been women. I'll add that my theological beliefs are very close to those of the UMC and the PCUSA, which seem to be far to the left of where Tom is coming from.

Those are my two cents.
