Subject: Role of Women in the church
In reply to: Nick T. 's message, "New thread on doctrine" on 10:27:55 10/22/04 Fri

Not sure what you think about this one, but how about the doctrinal role of women in the church? Or for that matter, the view of women in UBF? Though couples are, at face value, co-workers, I don't exactly think that women are treated equally as men. At the same time, there are other women who have roles in the church that should not be in those roles. I am referring to Paul's writings about how women ought not to teach over men. (Don't have my Bible right now, so I can't quote verbatim.) Big example is Sara Barry. By Biblical standards, she shouldn't be in the top position, or in any position which is over men. We also have Lil' Sarah--plus the whole paradigm of 1:1 Bible studies where women are teaching college men. (Of course, the whole qualification scenario for teaching or mentoring is a different story in and of itself.)

This might sound contradictory, because in one sentence I am fuming about equality, and in the next it sounds like I'm not. But in actuality, it is my belief that women can hold positions of leadership within the church with other women, but not with men. It is the way God ordained it and created us to be and worship. However, it makes sense.

Responses, anyone?
