Dear Tom;

This is an excellent point of discussion and of course has been noted as a topic of debate for centuries.

Speaking as a Christian woman, I personally believe that men SHOULD be the Spiritual head of both the household and the congregation.

But, with that being my own opinion, I would also like to add the following....

I think that within the home, decisions need to be made with the husband and wife praying together, seeking direction from the Holy Spirit. In the case of our home life, my husband and I make all major and minor decisions in this way. We have prayer together regarding all major financial and personal issues. Regarding the small stuff, (I just asked my husband for his opinion) and he said to add that for ALL decisions it is best to ask the wife first and LISTEN carefully to her opinion BEFORE finalizing any matters. He also told me to add here that I should not be to long winded on this topic and should not give any of you guys to hard of a time here. (He is just kidding).

In our church, the leadership consists of men and women holding leadership positions. The men carry the positions regarding the congregation as a whole, as well as leadership for the adult doctrine classes. Women lead for the children's doctrine classes, as well as for home preparedness classes, and women's personal studies. I have found that this system works well for us as a couple and we have both felt Blessed to be within a congregation where men and women are treated with respect and dignity, while at the same time we can appreciate the differences between us.
