Sounds good. What would be the dividing line between simple and not-so-simple? I mean, cooking fires and stuff would be simple, summoning sunshine and small rain simple, and such, but their oughta be limits pertaining to sections...
I agree with one having to go get a powerup approved, perhaps being actually told what their powerup would grant them, and perhaps being given an option to opt out of the powerup if they didn't want it. I'll think about it.
But I also think their oughta be certain limits on certain tasks - say like 5 simple spells and *maybe* one to three more complicated spells, for every week. You hit the limit, you need to rest for three days or something. This will encourage sparse usage of magic, as this isn't a game designed for mages. In battles I'll say up to 10 simple spells and three to five major spells. Once again, I'm not looking to start super-war machines. I'll put that as a limit on as a shaman can not fight another person with magic if their opponent is not capable of magic (essentially, it can only be a magic-use battle if both opponents are shamans), and even then it's a limit on battle-spells. Shamans aren't really meant to be warriors, I'd say - more healers than anything.
Or maybe perhaps you guys have a 'credit system'. More complex spells require more credits. Once you max out your credits, you need to take three days off magic to get them back again, which would be easier to monitor than dealing with saying simple vs complex... I'd just have spells that you guys would help me come up with, assign them credit values and voila! This will also make it easier for powerups, saying 'ya - you get 5 more credits per week' as an example. Ah, what inspiration.
Sample 'spells'? Potential credit values?
I'm going to estimate that a new shaman gets a maximum of 10 weekly credits to use on magic, requiring them to use them wisely. In a battle one automatically gets 5-10 more (to be decided, your imput?) to use for healing & such.
Also... Hrm... Forgot... Will think on it.
Great ideas! Keep 'em coming :)
