• He had actually gone for coffee - sitting up in a chair all night had not been comfortable by any means but there was no way he would leave her for more than a few minutes for a quick break to the bathroom or for more bitter coffee from the vending machine down the hall. He made his way back in as he heard her asking, the coffee as well as a sugary, processed snack in hand and moved to the edge of the bed so she could see him without craning her neck too much. "No, I'm still here baby.." He settled in his chair, out of the doctor's way and waited - he had spent much of the night in this pose, just watching her sleep, breathe, lulled by the sound of the heart rate monitor. • She glanced up at him as she heard him and smiled a touch glancing back to the doctor as she finished up her examination "Well?" She drew a soft breath, looking up at the doctor hopefully. "Does the baby still have a heart beat?" she twisted her fingers into her sheets, drawing a deep breath. "Yes... its been inconsistant through the night, but its still there... we may need to keep you in for another night... and you'll have to take it very easy from now on... i'm booking you in for a scan for ten, so we'll be able to have another look and see that theres no sign of distress, and we'll monitor the heart beat for another twenty four hours Mrs Belluci"// Aly released a breath and closed her eyes softly, resting her head back intot he pillows with relief- smiling a little at the doctor "Thank you..." • Charlie waited with the same bated breath he saw Aly holding while they waited for the doctor's response and breathed out a slow, long, relieved breath before rising to shake the doctor's hand and thank him as he left the room. Once he was gone, he approached the bed and smiled down at her, reaching to squeeze her hand. He was cautiously optomistic - he knew she was still in some pain, but the reality of the baby surviving made his heart flutter. "That's good.. I knew you were strong." • "Are you sure?" Afterall, this entire thing had started because he hadn't been there. He fully intended to keep her in his line of sight from now until the baby was born - he usually hated those hovering, overprotective type, but they really couldn't take any risks. "Mali will be up shortly, I can get her to get the stuff and bring it in, she has the key..." He was pretty reluctant to leave at all, and at the risk of sounding whiney and controlling, he probably would go call Mali to do it anyways, regardless of what she said. " Echo had been terribly worried but the woman had been born with some common sense - recognizing that now, even though Aly was her baby, Charlie could look after her just as well as she could herself. He rubbed a hand over his eyes - he could use a shower, some sleep, a change of clothes - he was still wearing his suit from the office. It wasn't much later that she came in - hardpressed not to BOUND into the room, but she was eager to see her daughter. She hadn't slept well the night before but she hardly showed it as she made her way in, a soft smile crossing her features as she saw her daughter breathing, her heart beating, living. • The slight woman perched on the edge of her daughter's bed, spry and slender as she had been twenty years ago, and she picked up her daughters hand. "Daddy is okay, he's worried but Charlie is gonna call him.. " Lifting her daughter's hand to her lips, she pressed a kiss to it. "What did you realize, honey?" • She swallowed softly and closed her eyes, her mother relaxing her and soothing her in the way only a mother could, brushing her hair back from her face likeshe had when aly hadn;t been able to sleep as a child. I want her to be healthy and well and I want her love her as much as you love me" She had even tried to hide her true feelings about the baby from her mother- but Aly knew theat her mother knew her better than that- better than anyone- they were so alike the pair of them. • A slow smile spread across the woman's lips, her heart warmed by her daughter's words and she squeezed her hand gently, pressing it over her own heart. "I know, honey, I knew that all along." She knew what it was to be thrown off kilter by lifechanging news - Isaac's father's death, for example, but she also knew what it was to want a baby more than anything, to want it to flourish and live and be strong, and she knew that her daughter had her same heart, she had known all along.
