Obviously shots were very frequent in the 50s' and 60s' during doctor's home visit. There weren't oral antibitics! But, expecially in a farm, an enema also wasn't uncommon. The general practitioner often stayed with us at dinner or launch and he saw other patients. The most frequent causes of illness among kids are colds and stomach aches. He had to be sure we weren't suffering from pin worms and tapeworms. The "results" in the chamber pot were also the best proof of our constipation! I was a rebellious child and unfortunately fought EVERY shot and enema. Like you can bet I ALWAYS lost. The enemas were the worst. I was put unceremoniously on my back, naked, in the "frog position" with legs well apart near my chest on the kitchen table with butt hole and pee pee in full view for all to see! A big nozzle was stuck into my backside ignoring my loud protests, bawls, buckings, kickings and so on. Soapy water was flowing into my belly until I was thinking to burst. I pleaded to "take it out", to "let me go" and then I yelled: "go potty, poootty, do caca, caaaca!!!" No pity, my buttocks were kept shut by my mother for fifteen minutes. The boy who was crapping and farting into his chamber pot wasn't sure a little prince or a little macho, but a brat who had learned a good lesson in humility and who were the bosses in charge!
