I was probably around eight or nine when mom stopped taking rectal temperatures unless my temperature was really high. Anytime you had to go to the pediatricians office or if it was on a weekend or at night and you had to go to the emergency room then it was a pretty much the same thing you got your temperature taken rectally At the doctors office you would get called back they had a table in room that was along the wall and that’s where they took your temperature and got your weight and then you will go into the room and wait to see the doctor After you get to me probably 10 or 11 they would take you straight to the Room and the nurse will let you know that she had to take your temperature and you already knew where it was going it was no exceptions because it was the most accurate way so from newborn to 17 This was the standard embarrassing to say the least . And even at an older age you had to be accompanied by a parent which in my case it was always my mother and they believed that anytime you had a fever you would get 2 Tylenol suppositories and more likely one or two shots in your butt.
