I've used the "modern, die-cast" strainer from DSH. I like how it has the little bridge thingie that pulls the snares away from the drum. (I guess you have to see it). The Nickel strainer is real nice. You can get a discount if you order ten! Maybe we could get a bunch of people together and get some, if the discount is enough to offset the added shipping of distributing them. Just a thought. I'v seen "custom" snare drums that use the DSH die cast finger style. I've heard that they're pretty nice. The one I used was brass. It's nice but has some machine marks. If I were to be building expensive custom snares I'd try to find a way to get Nickel strainers. For now the DSH strainers are high quality pieces. They also sell Ludwig strainers which have a good rep.
