Ha ha. You're right.

I think my major problem is when really popular songs ("Landslide", "Boys of Summer", "Drift Away") are remade and put on albums or released as singles. Just seems like an easy way to score a hit and increase your album sales. I would imagine that the Dixie Chicks probably doubled their album sales because their remake of "Landslide" was released as a single. I think it's fine for bands to cover songs live - that's fun and appropriate. I also think it's great when artists remake "lesser-known" great songs. For example, Neil Finn's covered The Smiths' "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" - a great song that wasn't one of their bigger hits, but probably deserved to be. Another good example was when Nirvana covered Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" and reintroduced many younger fans to just how great David Bowie is as a songwriter. I remember a few years ago someone (forget the name) covered Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" and got a lot of airplay with it. It just seems weird, in my opinion. Certain songs - they just shouldn't be "officially" covered and distributed as singles unless all the money is going to charity of something.

But...what do I know?

:O)
