My wife is considering converting to Islam. I am Christian. Does Islam require her to divorce me. I hope my ignorance does not offend anyone.

Dear Sir,

I am glad you asked this before she embraced Islam so that you will know and she too ahead of time.

Islam prohibits a Muslim woman from marrying a non-Muslim man and the evidence of this is from the Quran:

�� if you ascertain that they [women] are true believers, send them not back to the disbelievers, they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them�� [al-Mumtahinah 60:10]

Islam is a beautiful way of life and we encourage you to pursue learning about Islam as your wife has done and then perhaps your heart will be opened to this truth and you too will embrace our way of life.

Once your wife embraces Islam your marriage to her becomes null and void and she must leave you immediately for you are no longer lawful for her. However if you embrace Islam you then become lawful for her and you two can remain together.

MAY ALLAH OPEN YOUR HEART TO ISLAM
