As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

Prophet Lots (as) wife chose to stay with her people of Sodom instead of accompany her husband. Allah says, interpretation of the meaning:

"Thereupon we saved him and all of his household except an old woman (his Wife) who was among those who stayed behind..." [Quran 26:171]

Allah says that he rained down on those who chose to stay behind a rain of destruction:

"..and we utterly destroyed the others and rained down on them a rain of destruction.." [Quran 26:173]

The rain of destruction was brimstone from a volcanic erruption. Says Allah:

"...We turned those sinful towns upside down and rained down on them stone hard blows of chastisement..." [Quran 11:82]
