Banners

http://pga.com

I think this site’s banner may have too many words on it. Though just learning, I felt it might have been a little busy. However, it was a good example of opacity. There are a few pictures that change every few seconds, and partially covering them is the word GOLF. You can “see through” the word, as well as a blue strip that has the words, “Find a PGA Professional in your area”. I liked the way opacity was used. I also like the colors used.

I liked this banner for its simplicity. It has a sort of layering effect, the pick over the blue. Other than that, it is truly simple. The only words are the web site’s name and a brief description of its purpose. I think the font used was very appropriate for an antiques site. It had an old-fashioned feel to it.

I like the color on this site, a kind of muted gold. This site also has a pattern as the background and uses opacity. The letters ESPN is faded into the background of the pattern. I also liked the shape of the banner. It is wider at the beginning, and again at the opposite end. The color of the background changes at the opposite end, which also has an interesting background, though I am unsure how it was created.

This site features rotated text that is not over the banner’s background. It has a different look. I felt the text was not clear, it seemed to be a bit fuzzy. But overall, I thought the design was original. I like the rotated text “hanging” from the banner.

I immediately like the design of this banner. The background is an interesting shade of beige. The banner is a blue, with the name of the spa the same color as the background. The letters are arranged with the first three aligned and the following two are written at different heights below the first three. I would like to know how to do this. Like the antiques site I mentioned, it has only the name of the site and a brief description of what is represents. The edges are either faded using shadow, or have a border that utilizes feathering. There is a line underneath the banner that makes it even more attractive. I felt this banner was excellent for the product it is advertising.

I really liked this banner. It has a white background, the only one I came across. I had never thought of white as a background color, yet I felt it worked well here. There is only a very thin black line separating the banner from the rest of the page. This banner features a picture of Oprah that I believe uses the filtering effect. The edges are faded. I like the color chosen for the text, a deep orange and the manner in which the text was arranged.

This was my favorite banner, though it would only come up for a minute before taking me right to a welcome page that did not have the same banner. I thought this was the most attractive banner I found. It used a solid black background on a white page. There was a large, white seven “cut out” from the background of the banner. There was also a picture of a BMW. It also had a thin white line separating one section from another. The text was limited, and easy to read. I felt it was very appealing to the eye. I am unsure why I was unable to keep it on the screen for very long.
