Subject: Noam Chomsky

Regarding Noam Chomsky's outlook: Someone asked about the 2000 election, and his reply was something like "Well, people voted for Bush b/c they'd rather have a beer w/ him. They weren't actually worried about issues at the time." I thought that was tremendously pessimistic - he didn't seem to be giving voters any credit. I understand how anyone could say that Americans are ignorant or oblivious, but he seemed to be taking it a bit far. I'd like to think that the people who actually take the time to vote know what they're doing.
