Hi Mary,
Well you've probably got all of us mother's with babes on the other side of the womb glassy eyed and nostalgic about feeling that first movement, lol. It sure has me.
I remember having the same concern Luka did, too - about moving quickly from elation over feeling the baby to concern that I wasn't feeling him regularly. Over the next few weeks the movements will probably get a little stronger and more frequent. By the 6th month my 'little guy' was so strong in his movements that he and I had regular dueling battles over who had juristiction rights over my left rib, lol. I was always gently pushing his little foot out of the way and he'd keep kicking it back up there. He liked that position, I guess. Interestingly, I noticed after he was born and even now (he just turned 9) that he likes to sleep in one position and stay there all night.
The first time I felt his movements I was driving and I freaked out and pulled over.
I've had four children, and I think all four started out feeling something like a cross between butterflies in the stomach and light tickling on the inside. But as each child got older in the womb their movements were distinctly different. My son has sort of sporatic kicks. He'd be totally still one moment then startle me by a sudden jolt. When he was getting his 'exercise' later in the pregnancy his movements were very dramatic. To look at my stomach while he was into it was hilarious; it would be 'jumping' all over the place. My daughter, on the other hand, had very gentle fluid movements. She would slowly move and arm or leg across and sometimes it felt like someone had a paintbrush inside me and was drawing a picture. And, amazingly, she is an incredible artist!
Anyway, sorry for digression. Congratulations on such a sweet milestone! Tracey's suggestion about lying on your back quietly is a good one.
Love,
Heather
